Basketball

The WMBA’s Community Centre League is a city-wide league where teams compete against other teams from different areas in the city, (a.k.a. Club Basketball). Players register online for their community centre and teams are formed based on those community centre catchment areas. There are no ‘tryouts’ for club basketball as we make as many teams in the area based on the number of players who register.

We offer both a Fall / Winter league which runs October through March and a Spring League from April to June. Registration for each run is in September and March respectively at our participating community centres in the Winnipeg area. The league holds its games weekends (traditionally teams ages 11 and under play Saturdays and ages 12+ run Sunday afternoons) along with one practice during the weeknights.

The WMBA adheres to a fair play and zero tolerance model to ensure young athletes are competing in a Fun & Safe environment. See all the game modifications and fair play rules in the League Handbook.

Goals and Mission

1. To provide a volunteer based basketball league in The Maples for youth to participate in.
2. To foster and encourage personal & athletic growth, education and development of all players, coaches and officials who participate in our program.
3. To encourage equal participation and strong values of basketball, such as teamwork and fair play within our community.
4. To encourage and promote volunteer involvement in basketball.
5. To define, develop and uphold the rules & regulations of basketball as adopted by the WMBA and ensure that participants in our community follow our respectful environment policy.

Winnipeg Minor Basketball Association (WMBA) 2024/25

Age 7-8 (Co-ed): Winnipeg Minor Basketball 

WMBA city-wide program with 1-2 games/week (Saturdays), plus practices
3v3 Cross Court Games

Age 9-12: Winnipeg Minor Basketball
WMBA city-wide program with 1-2 games/week (Saturdays), plus practices
9-10 Boys and 9-10 Girls – 4v4 Cross Court Games
11, 12 Boys and 11-12 Girls – 5v5 Full Court Games

Age 13-17: Winnipeg Minor Basketball
WMBA city-wide program with 1-2 games/week (Sundays), plus practices
5v5 Full Court Games

Fees:

Total League fees are made up of the WMBA league fees($162) plus the individual Community Club fees. Community Club fees will vary from district to district. 

1. Monday, February 26 – Registration Opens
2. Monday March 18th – Registration Closes (Late registrations incur a $50 WMBA late fee)
3. April 8-19th – Practices begin
4. April 20-21st – Regular Season Games Start
5. June 1-2- Final regular season games 
6. June 8-9th, June 15 – 16th Playoffs (Ages 11+)
7. June 22-23rd – City Championships
